Semicoded is what I've built: three live platforms for medical students, residents and surgical trainees, and twelve more ideas, from a self-checking clinical note to a 3D endoscopy simulator. I designed and wrote every one of them.

How I build

Surgical habits, applied to software.

history

Take the history before writing the code.

Every product here started with a person and a complaint: a resident fighting a rota, a student lost in a curriculum, a trainee who watched an operation without understanding it. The software comes after the diagnosis.

checklist

Ship like there's a checklist on the wall.

Small changes, reviewed, reversible. Medical content is checked by a person before it ships. Nothing reaches a student or a resident without someone looking at it first.

arabic

Arabic first, not translated last.

Right-to-left layouts and Egyptian Arabic copy are part of the first build, not a phase two. The people using these tools think in two languages, so the tools do too.

followup

Follow up after discharge.

Launch isn't the outcome. A tool works when the night shift keeps opening it without being asked. That is what I measure.

A surgeon who writes software.

I'm Omar ElBasatiny, a general and laparoscopic surgeon from Cairo. I spend my days on the wards and in theatre, and the rest writing code: web apps, native iOS, Android and macOS apps, 3D simulators and the servers behind them.

Medicine shows me the problems up close. Engineering lets me fix them properly, end to end, without waiting for someone else to understand the ward. Semicoded is the name for all of it.
